Cartie Challenge Entries Online

Entries are now open for the 2010 Catterline Cartie Challenge. 13 places have already been snapped up by last year's competitors, who took advantage of the option to register early, but - for the time being at least - there are still plenty of places left.

The Cartie Challenge is, along with Border Bogies and Cairngorm Soapbox Extreme, forming part of the inaugural Scottish Cartie Association Championships, so as well as competing for the honour and the glory of lifting the Connons Shield, teams can also collect championship points.

Another innovation for this year is the inclusion of the SCA's new Gravity Sidecar class, which will provide a new challenge for competitors and an exciting spectacle for spectators.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a strictly first com first served basis, so don't delay. See the Cartie Challenge page for further details about the rules and how to enter.

Entries Open for Cartie Challenge 2010

The teams that took part in last year's Catterline Cartie Challenge have been invited to enter the 2010 event, and entries from new teams will be accepted from the 7th February.

If you took part last year and have not yet received your entry form, please get in touch and we'll email it out to you.

There will be a few new features this year, including a radar speed gun to get everyone's top speed as they cross the finish line, and a brand new class for those wanting to try something a little different - Gravity Sidecar!

Entries Open for Catterline Cartie Challenge 2009

Entries are now open for the 2009 Catterline Cartie Challenge. The maximum number of teams has been increased to 30, and 13 teams have taken advantage of the "early bird" entries made available for last year's competitors from the start of January, meaning there are just 17 3 places left! Last year, all the places were filled before the end of February, so make sure you get your entries in soon to avoid disappointment. Entry forms and rules are available online, and you can also pick one up from the Creel Inn.

Robert Wins At Last

Two times runner up Robert Lindsay finally got his hands on the Connons Shield last weekend when he won the Catterline Cartie Challenge. With 26 carties taking part, the competition was fierce, but Robert beat the biggest field yet with his winning time of 33.90 seconds. There was heartache for Tequila Slammer, as they posted the fastest time of the day with 33.03 seconds, but also picked up a 5 second penalty at the Slammer - the corner they christened in 2005 - and had victory snatched from them.

Tequila Slammer had been in the lead after the first round, but soon slipped down the field in the second round as the other teams became more familiar with the combination of chicanes and slalom cones that tested both driver and machine to the very limit.

Cartie Challenge Rounds Off Great Gala Weekend

Karaoke, cowboys and carties combined to create a memorable gala in Catterline last weekend. The few occasional showers were not enough to dampen the spirits of the villagers as they enjoyed three days of fun and festivities from Friday night’s “Talent in the Tent” through to Sunday’s renowned Catterline Cartie Challenge.

“Talent in the Tent” – an informal evening of quizzes, karaoke and dancing - kicked off the festivities and gave young and old a chance to relax and have fun. The kids delighted by MC Tommy as he distributed sweeties and glow sticks while the grown ups sampled the real ales provided by CAMRA award winning landlord of the Creel Inn and the Marine Hotel, Robert Lindsay.

The theme of Saturday’s Gala was the Wild West, with the eye-catching “Catterline Saloon”, created from materials kindly donated by Deeside Timber, providing the perfect backdrop to the Northern Roughriders as they delighted the crowds with their displays of gunslinging and bar room brawling while the brave or foolhardy tried to stay atop the mechanical rodeo bull generously sponsored by Petrotechnics. The day was brought to an end with the spectacular Lucky Duck Chuck which sees 500 plastic ducks fired from a medieval catapult, followed – to the delight of all the children – by hundreds of sweets.
